When I went to Italy as a young woman, I was captivated by Pietra Dura, the Renaissance technique of fitting colorful stones together to make images. The use of stone as a material creates colors and patterns into art that is uniquely beautiful – no two pieces are alike. Over the centuries, Pietra Dura has been used to create pictures, and decorative pieces such as tabletops, cabinets, and boxes.
To bring Pietra Dura into the 21st century, I have married this ancient art of "painting in stone" to contemporary fashion.
